Farm Day 2008

Photos by Johanna English. Come to the Farm Day, July 18, 2008.

Johanna remarked, “I think the lighting was special that day. The colors in the photos are extra ordinary.”

Folks carried chairs out behind the barn to watch Professor Geels work his small-celled honey bee hives. Professor Geels talked while he worked, explaining and demonstrating the society inside the hive. He offered samples of honey-ladened wax for nibbling and tickling the tongue with sweetness.

Professor Geels found the frames filling with honey and also lots of brood, baby bees. Seedtime plants buckwheat between rows of vegetables as a green manure crop. Prof. Geels said, “Honey bees make lots of dark honey from buckwheat flowers.”
